Auckland Central Masters Swimming Inc. (ACMS) caters for mature swimmers (over 20 years old).
We are a not for profit organization. Financial surpluses from the series if any are used to support ACMS activities and swimming related community projects.
Our primary objective is to encourage participation in the sport of open water swimming. We are committed to swimming, having fun and promoting swimming as an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. We also foster swimmer education and water safety.
We organise a series of Open Water Swims in Auckland Harbour, including the popular and iconic Rangitoto to St Heliers swim.
The swims are open to anyone who is adequately prepared and wishes to accept the challenge. Membership of the Club is not a prerequisite for entry however we encourage you to join the Club and reap the benefits which include:
The Club holds professionally coached pool sessions all year round. Winter sessions are currently being held at the Teps in the central city every Wednesday from 7:00pm to ~8:00pm During summer, training is held at the open-air YMCA pool at Point Erin, Saint Mary’s Bay. Point Erin training time is 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
During the summer season, ACM members often meet at Takapuna Beach (outside the toilet block) or St Heliers for sea swims. Meeting times vary and can be obtained by contacting the Club. Note that these are not coached sessions.
A midwinter swim is held each year at the Tamaki Yacht Club one Sunday in late June. This is a 150-metre dash around the point and a longer swim from Kohimarama for the masochists. The use of wetsuits is advised for the long swim and discouraged for the shorter one!!!!! Hot drinks, hot food and rum are provided afterwards.
